What is a marine surveyor?

A Marine Surveyors  lot, what are his limitations.....

The only fully effective way of examining a boat is break it back into its component parts and then pull these apart and examine them meticulously. This would be a great way for a marine surveyor to produce a report on the condition before she was consigned to the scrap yard!  The marine surveyor has to find the line between being destructive to discover the condition of the structure and the being so cautious that no research is carried out at all!.

There are many areas which cannot be seen at all and so how does the marine surveyor survey these? Even regions that can be viewed are out of reach of the spike or endoscope. Again, there are large areas that can only be viewed from one side. For example  a deck with a teak covering is more likely to be troubled in the core but the core is completely inaccessible to the surveyor due to the headlinings.

A marine survey is carried out by carefully examining every part of the vessel concerned. The marine surveyor crawls and climbs over hull and superstructure. Getting into every possible space and peers into all the dark corners, often found upside down hanging by his toes from the locker ledges.  Where he cannot go his LED beam is shone.

A marine surveyor is looking for pat, present and most importantly, future issues. If he sees poor ground tackle, he knows the vessel is likely to be dragged ashore at the first onshore gale. Prevention is better than cure.

I would have no hesitation in using marine surveys again or in recommending them, their service was exceptional and the price very competitive Very helpful and quickly carried out survey. Report very easy to understand and comprehensive, produced very quickly.
